At Lanzarote, it is worth to visit the inland’s vineyards. Local wines are known to be excellent, and you should taste them right on the spot. Wines are grown in volcanic ground, inside of low craters that protect the vines from the wind. The most famous white wine, Malvasia, has been known around Europe for hundreds of years. With wines, you can taste local cheeses. Yaiza is the best wine region on the island, and it is not far from any of the island’s holiday destinations. At the wineries, you can eat in special wine restaurants as well as participate in guided tours during which you can learn a lot about wine making. Naturally, the guided tours include wine and cheese tasting. Wineries are usually open every day from early in the morning until early evening, and you should remember to buy your tickets in advance.
Another prestigious wine region is located in the San Bartolomé’s area, a short distance away from Costa Teguise, Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen. Here you can visit both the beautiful vineyards and the fascinating wine museum.
Lanzarote offers a wide range of sports. You can hike, cycle, swim, do various water sports, ride and so much more. More information on the area’s sport offerings is available in information desks right on the spot.
Hiking is particularly wonderful at Lanzarote. The island’s spectacular and unusual landscapes are unique, and you won’t find similar anywhere else. Walking is often better than using buses, as the island is quite difficult to travel and distant places cannot be reached by buses. Walking tours are organized throughout the island, so you have a great opportunity to learn about the history of the island. You can also walk at your own speed and enjoy the scenery completely in your own peace. The vineyards are also typically within walking distance from the villages. It is nice to walk there in fine weather.
In San Bartolome, you also have a chance to try go-karting. Transportation is provided from all the holiday destinations in the island and trips are included in the price.
